Selling scrap metal for the first time is straightforward once you know the basics.

1. Identify what you have. Separate obvious categories — steel, aluminium, copper, e-waste — even roughly. It speeds up quoting and avoids under-pricing.

2. Check for hazardous residue. Items that held fuel, gas, or chemicals (tanks, cylinders, drums) need to be handled and disclosed carefully. Reputable buyers will ask about this before pickup.

3. Get more than one quote. Prices can vary between buyers on the same day. A few extra minutes comparing offers is worth it for anything beyond a small load.

4. Confirm pickup or drop-off details in writing. Agree on weight verification, payment method, and timing before the buyer arrives, so there is no ambiguity on the day.

5. Keep a record. A simple note of weight, material type, price, and buyer details is useful for larger or recurring sales.
